Being direct
When considering being direct and clear in your communication, look at what your overall intention is in addition to the words at face value, because people don’t hear words at face value.
Would you like the person to feel belittled or uplifted? Ashamed or freed? Your tone, your context, your speed, your relatability, your listening, and your overall state matter just as much as, if not more than, the words you say.
Sometimes, the fastest way to your goal, which is what it means to be direct, isn’t just spitting the words out. Often, you can slow down a bit and bring some love to the process to be even more direct.
What if direct didn’t mean mean?
